Horsehead Holding Corp posts profit in Q2 2010

Horsehead Holding Corp., the parent company of Horsehead Corporation, a US producer of specialty zinc and zinc-based products and a recycler of electric arc furnace (EAF) dust, has issued its financial results for the second quarter of 2010.

According to the financial results, the net profit of the company was $5.7 million in the second quarter of 2010, compared with a net loss of $9.3 million in the second quarter of 2009. Sales revenues in the second quarter of 2010 doubled year on year, rising from $47.6 million to $98.5 million.

Zinc product shipments increased by 8,330 mt or 29.2 percent year on year to 36,860 mt for the quarter.

"The second quarter results reflected a continued increase in demand for our products and services. Zinc prices increased compared to the second quarter of 2009 but declined on a sequential quarter basis," said Jim Hensler, company president and chief executive officer.
