Higher prices see HR imports dwindle at Shenzhen

Customs data from China's Shenzhen Port indicate that 61'200 tons of HR steel imports, carrying a total value of $28.87 million, passed through the port during the first four months of 2005. The year-to-date HR import numbers are off nearly 60% tonnage-wise and nearly 20% value-wise from the previous year. Taiwan and India account for the bulk of HR imports at Shenzhen Port. Taiwan exported 32'300 tons (down 26.9% year on year) during the first four months, while India added 16'600 tons (down 76.6%).
