Chinese steel giant Hebei Steel Group has announced that it is planning to launch construction of its mining project at the open-pit iron ore mine in the town of Xiangtang in Tangshan, Hebei Province. The mine is the largest iron ore mine in Asia, with total reserves of 352 million mt of iron ore.
Hebei Steel plans to invest RMB 6.5 billion ($1 billion) in the project. The mine is expected to produce 15 million mt of iron ore each year once the project is completed, including 4.84 million mt of iron ore concentrate above 66 percent Fe grade. Hebei Steel said the project will create 2,500 jobs in Xiangtang.
