Hebei Province to eliminate 14.4 million mt of dated steel output capacity

On May 27, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published targets for the elimination dated capacities in 18 industries. The elimination targets for industries including steel, iron, cement, glass, papermaking, electrolytic aluminum and others show massive increases compared with previous targets published by China's State Council.

Specifically, the elimination targets for Hebei Province are much higher than previous. Specific targets for Hebei Province are as follows: the steel industry in Hebei is to eliminate 14.4 million mt of dated capacities, including 49 blast furnaces and seven converters; in the power industry in Hebei, nine small thermal power units are to be eliminated; meanwhile, in the coal industry in the province, 12 small coal mines will be closed, 35 mine shafts will be eliminated and an annual output capacity of 1.89 million mt will be eliminated.
