At the 7th SteelOrbis Turkish Steel Market Conference held in Istanbul on November 16, Turkish Construction Steelwork Association (TUCSA) vice president Yener Gür'eş stated that in 2012
Turkey's constructional steel industry gained speed in terms of overseas activities.
Mr. Gür'eş said that in 2012 the steel structure business improved in Central Asia, in African countries and in Azerbaijan, while also pointing out that significant improvements have been made in terms of quality for export purposes, even if figures did not reflect growth.
The TUCSA vice president cited the €4.2 billion wind tower investment to be made in
Turkey in the next 10 years as an example of the increase in steel structure use, underlining that bridge construction projects are also contributing to the industry.
Mr. Gür'eş indicated that various financial resources will be required, including foreign funds, if
Turkey's planned urban transformation project is carried out, stating that the project will require 300,000-500,000 mt of steel per year. Yener Gür'eş said that
Turkey is capable of building 3 million m2 per year of light steel building structures with its current capacities.
Mr. Gür'eş underlined the significance of the contribution of the housing industry, pointing out that Central Asia, Africa and especially China have housing needs and that
Turkey should consider these regions as well.
