Gogebic Taconite won’t build Wisconsin iron ore mine

National news media reported late Tuesday that mining company Gogebic Taconic no longer has plans to build its proposed iron ore mine in Wisconsin. The state senate rejected a measure (17 to 16) Tuesday that would allow Wisconsin's process to approve iron ore mines to be accelerated. Those senators who were in favor of the package were disappointed that approximately that 700 permanent jobs from the mine "slipped away." Meanwhile, Gogebic Taconite's president, Bill Williams, said the vote sent a clear message that "Wisconsin will not welcome iron mining. We get the message."
