Goa iron ore mining operations halted for monsoon season

With the onset of monsoon rains in the western Indian state of Goa, the local authorities have issued orders to stop all iron ore mining operations and transportation, a Goa government official said on Monday, June 5.
 
The official said that all such activities would be suspended up to September 30, 2017 when the monsoon rains are expected to recede.
 
For the record, the Goa government official also said that, during the mining season between October 30, 2016 and May 31, 2017, 41 mining leases in Goa had produced 20 million mt of ore, reaching the annual 20 million mt production ceiling stipulated by the Indian Supreme Court for Goa.
