Go ahead for Handan Steel’s 4.6 million mt project
According to Chinese local media, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved Handan Steel's plans to establish a flat rolled
production line.
Handan Steel is planning to to establish a 4.6 million metric tons capacity flat rolled
production line at the western part of its headquarters. This
production line includes a set of 2,250 mm hot rolled continuous rolling machine, 2,030 mm cold rolled continuous rolling machine and one
coated production line.
Meanwhile, for iron
production system, an annual 10 million metric ton stock year, two six-meter and 50 hole blast furnace, two 300-square meter sintering machine, and two sets of a rotary kiln will be established. For iron-making and steel-making system, two 3200 cubic meters blast furnaces, two 200 metric tons top and bottom combined blown converters, pretreatment machines for iron water will be set up.
The flat rolled
production line is scheduled to produce pipeline steel, auto sheet and household
plate which are in short supply in
China. The line will also produce hot rolled and cold rolled sheet/coil,
galvanized sheet and color-
coated sheet.
Handan Steel will finish the project in two stages. The first one will be finished in early 2008 and the second stage will be completed by the end of 2010.
Meanwhile, Handan Steel will eliminate some small blast furnaces, converters, sintering and rolling machines.
After the new
construction and elimination of outdated capacity, Handan Steel will have 7.7 million metric tons of iron, 8 million metric tons of steel, and 7.44 million metric tons of finished steel
production capacity.
The approval from the National Development and Reform Commission shows
China's determination to get rid of outdated
production capacity. Handan Steel has to wash out its outdated capacity before starting its new projects. The NDRC also requires the elimination of some medium and small sized steelmakers in Handan to restrict the increase in the total capacity in that region.
