According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.73 million metric tons in August this year, increasing by 2.6 percent year on year and falling by 0.5 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 38.54 million metric tons in the January-August period of this year, increasing by 8.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2016.
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in August this year. Iran’s DRI output amounted to 1.43 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in August, with outputs of 1.23 million mt, 510,000 mt and 452,000 mt respectively.
