Global DRI output up 1.9 percent in May from April

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 4.74 million metric tons in May this year, decreasing by 1.65 percent year on year and up 1.9 percent month on month. 
 
Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 22.27 million metric tons in the January-May period of this year, decreasing by 12.9 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2015.
 
The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in May this year. Iran’s DRI output was 1.433 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in May, with estimated outputs of 1.430 million mt, 510,000 mt and 420,000 mt respectively.
