Global DRI output up 13.5 percent in July

According to the data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in the 14 countries accounting for approximately 87 percent of total world DRI production in 2013 amounted to 5.1 million metric tons in July this year, increasing by 13.5 percent year on year and rising by 4.8 percent month on month. 

Meanwhile, world DRI output came to 34.17 million metric tons in the January-July period of this year, increasing by 10.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2016.

The worldsteel data show that Iran was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in July this year. Iran’s DRI output amounted to 1.58 million metric tons in the given month. Iran was followed by India, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in July, with outputs of 1.23 million mt, 540,000 mt and 500,000 mt respectively.
