Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production for March 2007 rose 8.6 percent year on year to 110.9 million metric tons.
China is again the largest steel-producing country with crude steel production of 40.2 million metric tons in March, an increase of 20.4 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asian region amounted to 60.7 million metric tons, up 15.4 percent on a year ago.
Germany produced 4.2 million metric tons of crude steel in March 2007, an increase of 1.4 percent year on year. France produced 1.9 million metric tons, a rise of four percent compared to the same month in 2006. Production in the UK was 1.2 million metric tons, two percent lower than March 2006.
Brazil produced 2.8 million metric tons of crude steel in March, an increase of 12.4 percent compared to March 2006.
Turkey's crude steel production in March rose 12.4 percent year on year to 2.2 million metric tons. Total production in the Other Europe region was 2.6 million metric tons, an increase of 8.3 percent year on year.
