Global crude steel output for September 2005
In line with the figures released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), world crude steel production for the 61 countries reporting to the IISI was estimated to be 92.1 million metric tons (mmt) in September 2005, which marks a 3.5 percent increase as compared to the same month of 2004. The figure was 91.4 mmt in August 2005. China, with production of 30.4 mmt of crude steel in September, was again the largest crude steel producing country. Year-to-date production reached 255.3 mmt, up 27.4 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asia region was 48.2 mmt in September, an increase of 14.3 percent on September 2004. Crude steel production in Germany amounted to 3.6 mmt in September, down 7.0 percent compared to the same month last year. The United Kingdom (UK) produced 1.0 mmt of crude steel in September, 13.3 percent lower than the same month in 2004. Turkey produced 1.7 mmt of crude steel in September, 0.6 percent higher than in September 2004. Crude steel production in the US was 7.8 mmt in September. This is a decrease of 7.0 percent compared to September 2004.
