Global crude steel output exceeds 1 billion mt
Global crude steel production has already exceeded 1 billion metric tons in the first eleven months of the year. Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production amounted to 1.011 billion metric tons in January-November 2005 period, up 6.1 percent year on year. In November alone, global crude steel production rose 4.1 percent year on year to 94.1 million metric tons. China's crude steel production amounted to 30.5 million metric tons in November, an increase of 17.4 percent from a year earlier. Total crude steel production in China reached 317.7 million metric tons in the first eleven months of 2005. France produced 1.6 million metric tons of crude steel in November, 4.5 percent lower than for November 2004. Production in Germany was 3.6 million metric tons, down 10.4 percent year on year. Production in the UK rose only 0.1 percent year on year to 1.1 million metric tons last month. Crude steel production in the US fell 5.6 percent year on year to 7.7 million metric tons in November.
