Germany posts rise in steel output

Data from Germany's Federal Statistical Office show that the country's crude steel output rose 11.2 percent year on year to 4.03 million metric tons in September. Pig iron output for the same month increased 12.6 percent year on year to 2.58 million metric tons. Compared to the previous month, September crude steel production rose 4 percent while pig iron production rose 1 percent. German crude steel output totaled 35.23 million metric tons through the first nine months of the year, up 5.7 percent year on year. In addition, pig iron output amounted to 22.75 million metric tons, up 5.6 percent on the same period last year.
