Austria-based plantmaker Siemens Metals Technologies has announced that it will modernize the slab caster No. 3 at the Duisburg-Huckingen plant of German steel producer Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann GmbH (HKM).

The modernization is intended to enhance the quality and product tolerances of the slabs produced. It will also enable HKM to further widen the range of high quality steel grades in its portfolio. Modernization works are scheduled to take place at the end of 2014 during a temporary plant shutdown.

Each year, HKM produces more than 1,000 different grades of steel with a production capacity of around 5.6 million mt.
