German passenger car output hits 4.96 million units in 2009

According to the data released by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Germany's passenger car output in December 2009 increased by 24 percent year on year to 346,900 units, while a month-on-month decrease of 29.81 percent was registered.

During the month in question, new passenger car registrations declined by five percent year on year to 215,400 units, and dropped by 23 percent compared to the previous month.

In the January-December period of 2009, Germany's total passenger car output totaled approximately 4.96 million units, down 10 percent, passenger car exports amounted to 3.41 million units, down 17 percent, while new registrations increased by 23 percent to 3.8 million units, all compared to 2008.
