German passenger car market shrinks further in May

According to the data released by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Germany's passenger car output in May this year rose by 10 percent year on year to 470,100 units, while a slight month-on-month increase of 0.15 percent was registered. May was the second consecutive month in which a month-on-month decrease was registered.
 
During the month in question, new passenger car registrations in Germany declined by 34 percent year on year to 252,800 units and regressed by 2.58 percent compared to the previous month, while passenger car exports rose by 46 percent year on year and improved by 8.53 percent month on month, reaching 367,700 units.
 
In the first five months of 2010, Germany's total passenger car output reached 2,322,000 units, up 26 percent, passenger car exports amounted to 1,766,600 units, up 49 percent, while new registrations decreased by 28 percent to 1,182,600 units, all compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
