German employment in metal production down 5.3 percent in June

At the end of June this year, 230,000 persons worked in metal production and processing in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, the figure was 5.3 percent less than at the end of June 2009. The number of hours worked in June in metal production increased by 13 percent from a year earlier, reaching 29 million, while the earnings (total gross wages and salaries) amounted to $888 million, increasing by 7.3 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, as of the end of June, employment in metal product fabrication in Germany totaled 452,000 persons, regressing by 4.7 percent, while the number of hours worked in June amounted to 60 million, up 7.8 percent, and earnings came to €1.49 billion, increasing by 2.9 percent, all compared to June 2009.
