Gerdau inaugurates coke plant in India

Brazil-based Gerdau announced Monday that it has inaugurated a coke oven plant in Andhra Pradesh, India, built with an investment of around RS 500 crore (US$92.59 million).

The plant has a capacity to produce 200,000 metric tons of coke, and the company is touting the plant as 100 percent environmentally friendly.

“Our coke oven project has been successfully completed by following all Gerdau Safety standards and giving values to safety above all,” Sridhar Krishnamoorthy, managing director of Gerdau Steel India, said to local media.

Gerdau also operates a steel mill in Andhra Pradesh that it acquired from the Baba Kalyani group in 2013.
