Brazil steelmaker Gerdau has been looking at new specialty steel products, as it holds a number of patents in countries like Spain.

According to Spanish media, the company has obtained six patents in the European country in the past three years, and has two other on the way to produce new types of specialty steel for the local automotive industry.

In a statement, Gerdau said the pursuit of new products will also allow it to reduce costs. The company said that three of the six patents it has consist of specialty steel of high strength limits and high fatigue life. They also have improved manufacturing and are suitable for cold and semi-hot deformation. The other three patents have a secondary cooling control by image analysis, the company said, while detailing the characteristics of its patents.
