About 400 workers at Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau in the city of Sao Jose dos Campos, in the state of Sao Paulo, went on strike on Thursday, according to a local union.

Employees are asking for better wages and say the steelmaker didn’t comply with a 9.88 percent salary increase it proposed last year. According to a local union, the strike should continue for an indefinite period of time, as it awaits to negotiate its requests with Gerdau.

Gerdau said it is in talks with the local union and added client support shouldn’t be affected in the region.
