Gerdau to expand Indian mill capacity by 200,000 mt

Brazilian steelmaker Gerdau expects to invest up to $150.6 million at its Indian Andhra Pradesh plant to expand the mill’s capacity by 200,000 mt, according to a media report.

As the specialty steel mill looks to expand its product portfolio, it expects to add another 200,000 mt capacity to the existing mill. The combined capacity could increase to 500,000 mt, according to a company’s executive in India.

Gerdau’s specialty steel mill is said to be operating at an 85 percent capacity. The mill serves the local automotive industry.

Gerdau’s Andhra Pradesh mill in Tadipatri has a 300,000 mt capacity, according to a media report citing a company’s executive.
