Gerdau announced today that it is the first steel manufacturer in North America to receive the International Code Council (ICC) civil engineering and construction approval for its continuous Grade 100 Threadbar products, supplied by DSI USA, Inc.

Grade 100 products significantly reduce reinforcement quantity, congestion, installation time and labor costs. These products are now being used across the US, providing additional options for construction projects with challenging engineering specifications.

Prior to the introduction of Grade 100, the highest domestic building codes allowed for maximum reinforcement strength of Grade 80. However, civil engineering firms and industrial construction designs increasingly required reinforcing products with smaller diameters, on smaller footprints, at lower costs.

Gerdau partnered with DSI USA, Inc. to conduct extensive testing and developed a special coupling system to match the hot rolled threads. Grade 100 is also recognized by American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) in its standard A615-15.

ICC develops model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures.
