Gerdau announced this week that its Brazil-based R&D department has developed a new steel with high corrosion resistance, which is optimal for work at higher temperatures and pressures such as the pistons of the new high-efficiency diesel engines.

In a statement, Gerdau said the new product has a high silicon content that makes the steel 20 percent stronger than the steel currently used in such applications. It also works at higher temperatures, with greater resistance and generating fewer particles by reaction.
