Fujian steel exports aid post-tsunami rebuilding efforts

Many countries affected by December's devastating tsunami have begun to rebuild, meaning they have to import large quantities of steel products. China's Fuzhou Customs informs that Fujian province exported 67'900 tons of steel products through the first four months of the year. More than half of this quantity –about 37'800 tons– has been exported to the disaster stricken countries of Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. Aside from the demand from countries rebuilding after the tsunami, the price difference between China's domestic market and the international market continues to entice traders in Fujian to export their goods despite Beijing's recent attempts to curtail steel exports.
