In March this year, the seasonal and working-day adjusted turnover index in
France's
manufacturing industry increased by 0.8 percent month on month, due to a strong rise of 9.9 percent in the manufacture of transport equipment, according to
France's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). The turnover decreased 0.9 from February in the
manufacturing industry excluding manufacture of transport equipment. Exports of
France's
manufacturing sector rose 1.1 month on month in March, after the 0.5 percent increase registered in February compared to January.
In the first quarter of the year, the turnover fell slightly by 0.2 percent in the
manufacturing industry compared to the fourth quarter of 2012. On year-on-year basis, the turnover in the
manufacturing industry decreased by 0.9 percent, while it fell by a larger margin of 3.2 percent in the manufacture of transport equipment.
In the first quarter this year, the turnover in French manufacture of transport equipment decreased by 0.3 percent compared to the previous quarter, mainly under the influence of the manufacture of automobiles which indicated a 6.2 percent quarter-on-quarter fall. Meanwhile, a 1.6 percent quarter-on-quarter decrease was recorded in the turnover in French metal and metal product
manufacturing. However, in the period in question, the turnover in the French construction industry decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter.
