According to the latest data regarding crude steel production in France released by the French Steel Federation (FFA), in August this year French crude steel production amounted to 954,250 metric tons, decreasing by 7.2 percent year on year and down 33.7 percent as compared to July this year.
In July this year France's crude steel production had amounted to 1,439,050 mt with a decrease of 1.9 percent compared to the same month last year and increasing by 7.4 percent from the May level.
In July and August, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) rose 4.4 percent and fell 28.3 percent year on year, amounting to 574,650 mt and 165,650 mt respectively, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 864,400 mt and 788,600 mt, decreasing by 5.7 percent and 1.1 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of the current year, France's crude steel production amounted to 10,775,400 mt, increasing 1.6 percent compared to the same period last year. In this period, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) rose 1.6 percent year on year, reaching 4,110,900 mt, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 6,664,500 mt, also increasing by 1.6 percent year on year.
The FFA also noted that domestic crude steel production in the first eight months of the year was 17.5 percent below the January-August 2008 production figures.
