In May this year, French crude steel production amounted to 1.423 million mt, down by 3.5 percent year on year, according to the latest data released by the French Steel Federation (FFA).
In May, crude steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAFs) fell 13.5 percent year on year to 492,200 mt, while crude steel production using blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 931,450 mt, falling by 2.9 percent year on year.
In the January-May period this year, French crude steel output decreased by 5.6 percent year on year to 6,646,950 mt. In the given period, EAF output fell 13 percent to 2.447 million mt, while BF output decreased by 0.7 percent to 4.2 million mt, both year on year.
The FFA also noted that, compared to the respective periods in 2008, domestic crude steel production in May this year was down 15.8 percent, while crude steel output in January-May of the current year indicated a decline of 19.1 percent.
