Freight volumes on China’s waterways up 3.2 percent in January-May

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced that in May this year the overall freight volume transported on China’s waterways (rivers, lakes, seas) amounted to 520 million mt, up four percent year on year, while the freight traffic volume on the country’s waterways amounted to 763.9 billion mt-km, decreasing by 1.8 percent year on year. 

 In the January-May period this year, freight volumes on China’s waterways totaled 2.39 billion mt, up 3.2 percent, while the freight traffic volume amounted to 2.4116 trillion mt-km, rising by 6.6 percent, both year on year.
