On December 21, Australian iron ore development company BC Iron Limited announced that the Nullagine iron ore joint venture project (JV) in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, equally owned by BC Iron Limited and Australian miner Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue), exporteded more than 1 million mt of ore during the first half of the fiscal year 2012 running from July 2011 to June 2012.

The direct shipping ore (DSO) product mined at the Nullagine Iron Ore Joint Venture's mine site near Nullagine, is trucked 55 km via a private bitumen haul road to Fortescue's Christmas Creek operation. From here, the ore is loaded onto trains via the integrated reclaimer system for the 300 km rail link to Port Hedland for shipment.

BC Iron managing director Mike Young said, "Following the achievement of reaching the 3 million mt per annum production rate in November, this is the second of four guidance targets for FY 2012 that we have ticked off."
