As the prospects for the Brazilian automotive industry remain bearish, automakers Ford and Volkswagen will temporarily halt operations at its Sao Bernardo do Campo plants in the next week, starting on Monday, according to media reports.

About 8,000 workers from Volkswagen and 3,000 from Ford will be furloughed next week. According to reports, the move aims to help the companies to balance car output with a weak demand.

In a statement, Ford also announced it will temporarily halt car production at its Camaçari plant, in the state of Bahia, from August 12-14.
