First stage of Ardebil Steel comes on stream

Iran's Minister of Industries and Mines yesterday (April 18) attended the inauguration ceremony for the first of five stages of the Ardebil Steel Factory project. The factory currently has an annual production capacity of 400'000 tons of steel rods and angles. The second stage of the project will see the annual production capacity increase 25% to 500'000 tons. Once all five stages of the Ardebil Steel Factory project are completed in early 2006, the plant will boast an annual production capacity of 2.15 million tons. The project is an integral part of Iran's 15-year goal of 20 million tons of annual steel production, 8 million of which the country hopes to export.
