UK-based mining giant Anglo American has announced that it has secured the removal of the third and final major injunction that has affected the construction of its 26.5 million mt per year Minas-Rio iron ore project in Brazil.
The first two injunctions were removed in September, enabling construction of the primary crusher and conveyor system at the mine site. With the third injunction lifted which affected the installation of the 90 km electricity transmission line, work on the installation will begin immediately.
As SteelOrbis previously reported, in November the company stated that work was continuing to resolve a number of licensing challenges facing the project. These included three injunctions affecting construction activities at the beneficiation plant and the installation of an electricity transmission line, and land access issues affecting the 525 km pipeline route.
