An explosion that occurred late Wednesday has temporarily suspended operations at Gerdau’s Wilton, Iowa long steel mill. Three employees and one contractor were injured, with two of the four released from the hospital by Thursday morning.

In a statement, the company said it is working closely with authorities to investigate the incident and determine its cause. The location of the explosion was reportedly at the plant’s melt shop.

Gerdau’s Wilton plant produces merchant bar, wire rod, beams, piling, and other structural products.
