The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) and United Steelworkers (USW) have announced a partnership to further, accelerate, and develop wind energy production within the US. The organizations have further outlined a Framework Agreement, outlining steps to be taken to achieve their goal.

"America must be a global leader and establish new manufacturing jobs," said Leo W. Gerard, USW International President. "The Framework Agreement is designed to create a Partnership for Progress that doesn't accept second place, and instead, puts the US at the leading edge of clean energy manufacturing."

According to a Princeton Energy Resources report prepared for the US Department of Energy, turbine material usage is and will continue to be dominated by steel.  Steel products used for construction of turbines include plate and rebar.
