Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK), a subsidiary of the Russian steelmaker and iron ore producer Evraz Group (Evraz) has announced that in 2010 it has developed the production of eight new steel grades with high requirements in terms of chemical composition, while it has made 43 modifications to previously developed steel grades.

Accordingly, depending on the alloying elements used, the new steel grades have improved resistance to corrosion, as well as greater hardness, durability and lightness. The new steel grades are used in the production of slabs, billets and rolled products for application in vehicles, including railroad wheels of increased hardness.

By the end of the current year, at its converter shop NTMK plans to master the output of products from API-class steel, which are in demand for the production of gas pipelines.

To date, NTMK has developed the production of over 1,000 steel grades.
