Union workers at Evraz North America’s Regina plant in Canada voted 99.3 percent in favor of striking if necessary. The United Steelworkers Local 5890, which represents around 900 workers, discussed proposals from the company at a special membership meeting Thursday.

According to the union, the proposals from Evraz contain significant concessions, including no wage increases for the first three years of a five-year contract, followed by a half percent increase in the fourth and fifth years.

Evraz’s Regina plant is expected to supply the majority of steel for the recently-approved Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
