According to the indexes issued by the European Steel Association (Eurofer), local scrap prices in the European Union (EU) in October recorded a steep downtrend, posting decreases of between six percent and eight percent compared to September. Meanwhile, in October the year-on-year comparisons indicate decreases of around 11 percent for the various scrap grades surveyed. The following table indicates the scrap index movements in October:

For the first 10 months of 2012, decreases of around five percent were seen for demolition scrap and shredded scrap, while the decrease for new arisings approached nine percent, year on year, as indicated in the following table:
