Euro area industrial output up slightly in April from March

In April this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.1 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, as compared with March, while industrial production in March had decreased by 0.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In April this year compared with April 2014, industrial production increased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.
 
As compared to March, in April this year the production of durable goods increased by one percent in the euro area and by 0.5 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods was down by 0.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28. Meanwhile, production of intermediate goods increased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and remained unchanged in the EU-28, month on month. In April of the current year, production of capital goods increased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-28 area, while production of energy decreased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, all month on month.  
 
Among the member states, in April the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Lithuania(+2.2 percent), Sweden (+2.1 percent) and Portugal (+2.1 percent) and the largest decreases in Croatia (-4.1 percent), Malta (-3.8 percent), Greece (-2.3 percent) and Poland (-2.1 percent).

As compared to the same month of 2014, in April this year production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-28, while production of intermediate goods increased by 0.2 percent in the euro area and rose by 0.8 percent in the EU-28. In April of the current year, production of durable consumer goods increased by 1.7 percent both in the euro area and in the EU-28, production of energy moved up by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.1 percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 2.1 percent in the euro area and by 2.4 percent in the EU-28, all year on year.

Among the member states for which data are available, in April this year the largest year-on-year decreases were registered in Finland (-4.1 percent), the Netherlands  (-3.9 percent), Portugal (-1.1 percent) and Estonia (-0.2 percent) and the highest increases in Latvia (+10.2 percent), and Ireland (+9.8 percent) and Hungary (+6.3 percent).
