Euro area construction output up 0.3 percent in May from April

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in May this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) fell by 0.3 percent compared to April and grew by 0.5 compared to the same month of 2014. In April, production had increased by 1.5percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in May increased by 0.3 percent both month on month and year on year. In April, production had increased by 0.8 percent compared to March, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in May decreased by 0.6 percent month on month and fell by 0.4 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.3 percent from April and was up by 4.7 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction increased by 0.2 percent month on month and fell by 0.1 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.3 percent month on month and by 1.7 percent year on year.

As compared to April, construction output in May decreased in Slovenia by 6.2 percent, in Bulgaria by 3.3 percent and in Hungary by 3.1 percent, while an increase of 3.8 percent was registered in Slovakia, an increase of 2.7 percent was seen in the Netherlands, and a rise of one percent was registered in France.

As compared to May last year, construction output in May this year decreased in Slovenia by 9.9 percent, in Bulharia by seven percent and in Italy by 2.5 percent, while an increase of 18.7 percent was registered in Slovakia, a gain of 16.4 percent was registered in the Netherlands, a rise of 13.4 percent and 13.3 percent were seen in the Czech Republic and Sweden, respectively.
