Euro area annual inflation up to 0.3 percent in May

Annual inflation in the euro area was 0.3 percent in May this year, up from 0.0 percent in April, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In May 2014, the annual inflation rate was 0.5 percent.

Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 0.3 percent in May, up from 0.0 percent in April. In May 2014, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.6 percent.

In May this year, annual inflation in the EU-28 increased in 23 states, fell in two states and remained stable in three states as compared with April. The lowest inflation rates were observed in Cyprus (-1.7%), Greece (-1.4%), and Slovenia (-0.8%), while the highest were observed in Romania and Malta (both 1.3%) and Latvia (1.2%).
