Annual inflation in the euro area was 0.1 percent in August this year, down from 0.2 percent in July, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In August 2014, the annual inflation rate was 0.4 percent.
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was 0.0 percent in August, down from 0.2 percent in July. In August 2014, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.5 percent.
In August this year, negative annual rates were observed in eleven states. The lowest inflation rates were observed in Cyprus (-1.9%), Romania (-1.7%) and Lithuania (-1.0%), while the highest were observed in Malta (1.4%), Austria (0.9%) and Belgium (0.8%).
