According to the report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in November 2014 industrial producer prices decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the
European Union member states (EU-28), month on month. As compared to November 2013, industrial producer prices fell by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU-28.
In November 2014 compared with October, prices in overall industry decreased by 0.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.1 percent in the EU-28. The prices of capital goods and durable consumer goods remained stable in both zones, both month on month. The prices of intermediate goods decreased by 0.3 percent in both zones on month-on-month basis. Meanwhile, the prices of energy decreased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 1.2 percent in the EU-28 and the prices of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 0.1 percent in both zones, all month on month.
In the given month, among the member states for which data are available, the largest month-on-month decreases in industrial producer prices were recorded in Greece (-1.4%), Cyprus (-1.4%), Ireland (-1.3%), Estonia (-1.2%) and Spain (-1.1%), while the only increase was registered in Slovakia (+0.3%), with prices remaining stable in Germany.
In November of the past year as compared to November 2013, prices in overall industry excluding the energy sector decreased by 0.2 percent in both the euro area and the EU-28. Prices in the energy sector fell by five percent in the euro area and by 6.5 percent in the EU-28, year on year. Prices of intermediate goods decreased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, year on year. Prices of capital goods rose by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-28, while the prices of non-durable goods decreased by 0.8 percent in the euro area and were down 0.9 percent in the EU-28, all year on year. Meanwhile, the prices of durable consumer goods rose by 1.1 percent in the euro area and increased by 0.9 percent in the EU-28, year on year.
Among member states for which data are available, the only year-on-year increases in the overall index were observed in Romania (+0.5%) and Bulgaria (+0.3%), while the largest decreases were seen in Lithuania (-6.6%), the Netherlands (-4.5%), Denmark (-4.2%), Belgium (-3.9%) and in the UK (-3.8%).
