Euro area industrial output up 0.7 percent in June from May

In June this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and by 0.9 percent in the EU-27, as compared with May, while production in May had decreased by 0.2 percent and 0.4 percent month on month in the respective areas. In June this year compared with June 2012, industrial production increased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.

As compared to May this year, in June the production of capital goods increased by 2.5 percent in both zones, while non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.6 in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-27. Meanwhile, the production of intermediate goods rose by 0.5 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-27. In June this year, durable consumer goods rose 4.9 percent in the euro area and by 4.2 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy dropped 1.6 percent in the euro area and fell by 1.3 percent in the EU-27, month on month.

Among the member states for which data are available, in June this year industrial production rose in 14 states, fell in eight, on month-on-month basis. The largest increases were registered in Ireland (+8.7%), Romania (+5.7%), Poland (+3.1%), and Germany and Greece (both +2.5%), and the largest decreases in the Netherlands (-4.1%), Portugal (-2.8%) and France (-1.5%).

As compared to the same month of 2012, in June this year production of durable goods declined by one percent in the euro area and rose by 0.1 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by 1.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.7 percent in the EU-27. Production of non-durable consumer goods decreased by 1.1 percent in the euro area and fell by 0.5 percent in the EU-27. Production of energy fell by 1.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.9 percent in the EU-27, while production of capital goods increased by 3.3 percent in the euro area and by 3.2 percent in the EU-27.
Among the member states for which data are available, in June this year industrial production fell in 11 states and rose in 11, on year-on-year basis. The highest increases were registered in Romania (+9.6%), Poland (+5.3%) and Estonia (+4.7%), and the largest decreases were in Finland (-5.9%), Bulgaria (-4.4%) and the Czech Republic (-3.0%).
