Euro area industrial output down slightly in January from December

In January this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 0.1 percent in the euro area, while remaining stable in the EU-28, as compared with December 2014, while industrial production in December last year had increased by 0.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU-28, both on month-on-month basis. In January this year compared with January 2014, industrial production increased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-28. These figures are released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Union.
 
As compared to December, in January this year the production of durable goods decreased by 2.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.7 percent in the EU-28, while the production of non-durable consumer goods was up by 0.1 percent in the euro area and by remained stable in the EU-28. Meanwhile, production of intermediate goods decreased by 0.5 percent in the euro area and remained unchanged in the EU-28, month on month. In January of the current year, production of capital goods decreased by 0.5 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-28 area, while production of energy increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 in the EU-28, all month on month.  
 
Among the member states, in January the highest month-on-month increases were registered in Malta (+6.1 percent), Hungary (+4.3 percent) and Bulgaria (+2 percent) and the largest decreases in Croatia (-4 percent), Latvia (-3.1 percent), Finland (-2.5 percent) and Lithuania (-2.3 percent).

As compared to the same month of 2014, in January this year production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 2.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU-28, while production of intermediate goods increased by 0.7 percent in the euro area and rose by 1.2 percent in the EU-28. In January of the current year, production of durable consumer goods increased by 2.5 percent in the euro area and by 2.9 percent in the EU-28, production of energy moved up by 2.9 percent in the euro area and by 1.3 percent in the EU-28, while production of capital goods increased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU-28, all year on year.

Among the member states for which data are available, in January this year the largest year-on-year decreases were registered in Croatia (-4.9 percent), Finland (-4.1 percent) and Latvia (-3.5 percent) and the highest increases in Ireland (+8.8 percent), and Malta (+8.1 percent) and Hungary (+7.8 percent).
