Euro area industrial output down 1.4 percent in Oct from Sept

In October this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production decreased by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by one percent in the EU-27, as compared with September. In September, production had decreased by 2.3 percent and 2.1 percent month on month respectively. In October this year compared with October 2011, industrial production decreased by 3.6 percent in the euro area and by 3.1 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
 
As compared to September, in October this year production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and by 0.6 percent in the EU-27, while capital goods fell by three percent in the euro area and by 2.3 percent in the EU-27. Meanwhile, the production of durable consumer goods decreased by 3.8 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU-27. In October this year, intermediate goods decreased by 1.2 percent in the euro area and decreased by one percent in the EU-27. Production of energy decreased by 1.5 percent in the euro area and by one percent in the EU-27, month on month.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in October as compared to the previous month, industrial production rose in eight states, fell in 14 and remained stable in Romania. The largest decreases were registered in Estonia  (-5.3%), the Netherlands (-4.7%), Slovakia (-3.9%) and in Germany (-2.4 %), while the highest increases were in Portugal (+4.8%), Ireland (+2.7%) and in Poland (+1.9%).
 
As compared to the same month of 2011, in October this year production of capital goods declined by 4.3 percent in the euro area and by 3.4 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by 4.6 percent and 4.1 percent respectively. Durable consumer goods fell by six percent in the euro area and by four percent in the EU-27, while production of energy increased by 0.4 percent in the euro area, but declined by 0.9 percent in the EU-27. The production of non durable consumer goods fell by 2.2 percent in the euro area and by 1.9 percent in the EU-27, year on year.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in October this year as compared to October 2011 industrial production rose in 10 states and fell in 13. The highest increases were registered in Lithuania (+10.3%), Slovakia (+8.1%) and Malta (+4.5%), while the largest decreases were seen in Ireland (-16.2%), Italy (-6.2%), Bulgaria (-4.2%), in the Netherlands and Portugal (-both 3.9%), and in Germany (-3.8%).
