Euro area industrial output again up by 0.6 percent in August

In August this year, seasonally-adjusted industrial production increased by 0.6 percent in the euro area and by 0.3 percent in the EU-27, as compared with July. In July, production had increased by 0.6 percent and one percent month on month respectively. In August this year compared with August 2011, industrial production decreased by 2.9 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU-27. These figures are released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
 
As compared to July, in August this year production of non-durable consumer goods increased by 1.3  percent in euro area and by one percent in the EU-27, while capital goods rose by 0.7 percent in the euro area and remained stable in the EU-27. Meanwhile, the production of durable consumer goods increased by 3.9 percent in the euro area and by 2.4 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods remained stable in the euro area and decreased by 0.1 percent in the EU-27. Production of energy increased by 0.9 percent in the euro area and rose by 0.3  percent in the EU-27, month on month.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in August as compared to the previous month, industrial production rose in 13 states and fell in eight and remained stable in Ireland. The highest increases were registered in Portugal (+6.8%), in Lithuania (+4.6%), Slovenia (+4%) and in Greece (+2.5%), while the largest decreases were in the Czech Republic (-2.9 %), Denmark (-2.8%) and in Romania and Finland (both with -1.1%).
 
As compared to the same month of 2011, in August this year production of capital goods declined by 1.9 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 percent in the EU-27, while intermediate goods fell by 4.9 percent and 3.8 percent respectively, durable consumer goods fell by 4.9 percent in the euro area and by 2.9 percent in the EU-27, while production of energy remained stable in the euro area and declined by 0.5 percent in the EU-27. The production of non durable consumer goods fell by 1.4 percent in the euro area and by 0.8 in the EU-27, year on year.
 
Among the member states for which data are available, in August this year as compared to July 2011 industrial production rose in 11 states and fell in 11 others. The highest increases were registered in Slovakia (+17%), in Lithuania (+11.%) and in Latvia (+8.1%), while the largest decreases were seen in Italy (-5.2%), in Spain (-3.2%), and in the Czech Republic (-3.1%).
