According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in October this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 0.1 percent compared to September and rose by 1.2 compared to the same month of 2014. In September, production had decreased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in October increased by 0.5 percent month on month and moved up by 1.1 percent year on year. In September, production had decreased by 0.7 percent compared to August, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in October increased by 0.1 percent month on month and was up 1.0 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region rose 0.4 percent from September and was up by 3.0 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction rose 0.3 percent month on month and was up 1.0 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.5 percent month on month and by 1.1 percent year on year.
As compared to October last year, construction output in October this year decreased by 11.8 percent in Slovenia, by 7.8 percent in Hungary and by 5.2 percent in Bulgaria, while an increase of 29.7 percent was registered in Slovakia, a gain of 13.8 percent was seen in Sweden, an increase of 10.2 percent was recorded in Romania and growth of 8.2 percent was recorded in Spain.
As compared to September, construction output in October decreased by 7.6 percent in Hungary, by 1.6 percent in Poland and by 1.5 percent in the Czech Republic, while an increase of 2.4 percent was registered in Slovakia, a gain of 1.8 percent was recorded in Sweden, and an increase of 1.0 percent was observed in Romania.
