According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in December 2014 the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.5 percent both compared to November and compared to the same month of 2013. In November, production had decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in December of the last year decreased by 0.8 percent month on month, while falling 3.5 percent compared to December 2013. In November, production had decreased by 0.5 percent compared to October, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in December decreased by 0.9 percent month on month and by 1.6 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.7 percent from November but grew by 1.4 percent year on year.
As compared to November 2014, construction output in December 2014 decreased in Hungary by 6.5 percent, in the Czech Republic by 3.3 percent, in Germany by 2.9 percent, while an increase of 7.2 percent was registered in Romania, an increase of 2.3 percent was seen in Italy, an increase of one percent was registered in Poland.
As compared to December 2013, construction output in December 2014 decreased in Slovakia by 9.8 percent, in the Czech Republic by 7.8 percent, in France by 7.5 percent, in Italy by 5.2 percent and in Germany by 4.7 percent, while an increase of 15 percent was registered in Romania, an increase of 9.4 percent was seen in Sweden and an increase of 4.8 percent was registered in Poland.
